Gilbert Ponton is a Class II detective who assists Clouseau and is one of the three tritagonists of the 2006 film "The Pink Panther".

Story[]

Initially assigned to keep Clouseau out of trouble, Ponton becomes friends with the bumbling Inspector. Clouseau attacks him at random times to keep his reflexes sharp, something Ponton agrees to as he can defend himself. Hence their usual exchange noted in the quotes. A loyal friend, Ponton remains unquestioning of Clouseau's methods as soon as the Inspector has solved the case and needs to apprehend the criminal. Other times he offers contrasting advice to help him.

Biography[]

Ponton lived in Paris and at some point, he became a detective for the Parisian police. Dreyfus later assigned him to work with Clouseau so he can watch his every move. When Clouseau was in his new office, Ponton introduced himself to Clouseau. Clouseau asked him what his ancestors did in the past, and kept repeating "and before that?" until Ponton said "Farmers!". The next day, Clouseau says he will attack Ponton whenever and wherever it is least expected and tries to punch him. (only for Ponton to easily throw one back at him.) They go into a building where the pop star Xania was recording her new song "woman like me" which Clouseau interrupts. He and Clouseau ask questions. Then they take the French soccer player Bizu to the Police Station for interrogation. When Clouseau uses “The Box” On himself and screams, Ponton Just looks off. Later he tells Clouseau that Bizu was murdered in the soccer locker room, though it took a few sentences for him to understand that he was dead, as it was clear Clouseau didn’t understand the word Fatal.
